Origanum (or oregano) is a useful oil to use in burners or diffusers. It may help with viral diseases, circulation, muscular and articular pain and bronchitis. It is also used as a respiratory stimulant.

DESCRIPTION:
Origanum (oregano) is an herb from which the essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and flowering tops. Some of its countries of origin are North Africa, Europe and Asia.

Oregano is highly antiseptic, antiviral and a respiratory stimulant. It is also an analgesic, antirheumatic and an expectorant but it carries with it a high degree of hazards if not used properly. It is a fairly severe skin irritant and a very severe mucous membrane irritant. Origanum is an oil best used in a diffuser or room spray. Keep at a 1% dilution when using in a massage oil.

Oregano is a very powerful essential oil and its use should be approached with care. Oregano essential oil can be used in cleaning products when seasonal illness is present. When very well diluted, it can also be used for the achy joints associated with aging.

It blends well with cajeput, chamomile roman, citronella, dill weed, eucalyptus lemon, geranium egyptian, marjoram sweet, niaouli, pine scots, rosemary, and thyme thymol.

DIRECTIONS:

Aromatic - Diffuse using 1- drops per 100 ml of water or use in a personal inhaler.

Topical - Dilute to a maximum of 1% in a carrier.

CAUTIONS:
Keep out of reach of children. For external use only. If swallowed, seek urgent care/call poison control. Do not use undiluted. Avoid eyes and mucous membranes; if contact occurs, rinse with vegetable oil. Do not use if pregnant/breastfeeding. If allergic reaction occurs, stop use and call a health care practitioner. Phototoxic; if accidental skin contact occurs, do not sun tan/use tanning beds for 3-4 days. For prolonged use, consult a health care practitioner.

SPECIFIC CAUTIONS:
Maximum dilution of 1% for topical applications. This oil must definitely be avoided when pregnant and should never be used on babies or small children. Skin and mucous membrane irritant. Oregano is a powerful skin irritant.
