Botanical Name: Salvia officinalis
Family Name: Lamiaceae (Labiatae)
Country of Origin: Ukraine
Part of Plant Used: Leaves
Method of Extraction: Steam Distillation
Scent: Herbaceous scent with strong musty notes.

Source: Soft, gray-green leaves of the evergreen sage bush are harvested, dried, then distilled.
Description of Plant: an evergreen perennial herb with a woody base, soft gray-green oval leaves and a mass of blue or violet flowers that can grow up to about 60 cm tall. The Latin word salvare means 'heal' or 'save’. The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that it imparted wisdom, thus its name; and through the Middle Ages, it continued to be used for memory loss.
Where Cultivated: It originated in the Mediterranean basin as most of our culinary herbs did but it is hardy enough to grow almost all over the world both wild and as a garden plant.

TOP NOTE: Fresh and light, top notes are often the first aromas to reach the nose and dissipate quickly.
