Pine is obtained from the dry distillation of the needles (sometimes the young twigs and cones are also used) to produce an oil that is very pale yellow in color. Its main constituent is pinene. Some of the areas of origin are Europe and North America.

Essential oil of Pine has a stimulating effect on the circulation, making it good for helping to relieve the pain of sore muscles, arthritis or rheumatism. It is used mainly for helping to treat respiratory and urinary tract infections as well as muscular pain. It is an excellent expectorant as well as a powerful pulmonary antiseptic. For an individual with a cold, sinusitis, coughs, bronchitis or sore throat, this oil is useful when used in a steam inhalation, several times daily. When dealing with these types of infections, pine blends well with eucalyptus (radiata), or tea tree. It is a refreshing, stimulating, clean smelling oil that is helpful when dealing with nervous exhaustion or mental fatigue.

Pine has a refreshing and ‘opening’ effect, and is mainly used to support the respiratory system particularly during the winter months. It is also used in sports massage. It is also excellent for cleaning.

Scots Pine is particularly known for its ability to help support a healthy respiratory tract. When added to a carrier oil, it is warming and soothing to tired muscles and can help support circulation. It is gentle enough to use in children ages 2-10. Added to cleaning products or to potpourri, it brings the fresh scent of the forest into your home.

It blends well with cedarwood, citronella, clary sage, eucalyptus globulus frankincense serrata, grapefruit pink, laurel leaf, lavender, lemon, myrrh, oregano, rosemary, and spruce hemlock.

DIRECTIONS:
Diffuse Scots Pine or dilute with carrier oil (3 drops Scots Pine to a teaspoon of carrier oil) and apply to the chest to ease congested breathing commonly seen in seasonal illness. Add 6 drops of Scots Pine to 2 teaspoons of carrier oil and massage away muscle soreness from overwork.

Aromatic - Diffuse using 2-3 drops per 100 ml of water or use in a personal inhaler.

Topical - Dilute 3-5% in a carrier.
