Country of Origin: India
Part of Plant Used: Resin
Method of Extraction: Steam distillation
Scent: Green, Woody, Earthy Scent.

Source: This small shrub produces an oleo resin which is collected from small incisions made in the bark, then distilled into a fragrant oil.
Description of Plant: Frankincense also known as olibanum is a small tree, which has abundant narrow leaves and white or pale-pink flowers. Incisions are made into the trunk in order to allow a milky-white oleoresin to exude. The resin then hardens into an orange-brown gum and is steam-distilled for its essential oil with a yield of 3 - 5%.
Where Cultivated: Frankincense is native to the Middle East and North Africa. It grows in Somalia, Ethiopia, southern Arabia and China. Somalian frankincense tends to be from B. scara and B. frereana.

BASE NOTE: A rich, lingering aroma that develops slowly on the skin; acts as a grounding element for lighter notes that may dissipate quickly.

DESCRIPTION:
Frankincense Serrata essential oil, also known as Olibanum, is steam distilled from the gum resin of the tree. It has been used for thousands of years by native peoples as an incense, medicine, and in cosmetics.

In skin care, frankincense essential oil is helpful to mature skin and has a definite tonic effect, helping to restore tone to slack looking facial skin. It may also be helpful in reducing wrinkles. It has also been used to help heal sores and wounds as well as skin irritations and inflammation.

Frankincense essential oil is an extremely calming oil and is used as a meditation aid. It helps to slow down and deepen the breath, which in itself can help to instill a sense of calm. Because it slows the breathing, it is an excellent oil for asthma when used in massage (not via steam inhalation). In a medicinal sense, frankincense essential oil is very helpful for the lungs, proving valuable for its use with respiratory infections. It can calm coughs, is an expectorant and is indicated for chronic bronchitis.

This therapeutic Frankincense resin oil has a deeply relaxing aroma. Today, in aromatherapy, this sweet and woody aromatic oil is often used to promote a state of relaxation, helping to encourage slower and deeper breathing when inhaled. It is fresh and uplifting and it is ideal to use during meditation and mindfulness practices to enhance your wellbeing.

It blends well with bergamot, carrot seed, cedarwood atlas, clove bud, lemon, myrrh, nutmeg, orange sweet, pine scots, sandalwood australian, spruce hemlock, and vetiver.

DIRECTIONS:
For a blend that will help promote clear breathing, add 3 drops Frankincense Serrata, 2 drops Eucalyptus Globulus, 1 drop Rosemary, and 1 drop Spruce or Fir Needle in the diffuser. Frankincense Serrata is highly prized as a meditative, mind-clearing oil, so for a supportive blend add 4 drops Frankincense Serrata, 3 drops Sandalwood, and 1 drop of Cedarwood, Cypress, or Patchouli to a diffuser.
