DESCRIPTION:
Lemongrass is a grass that is steam distilled to produce an essential oil that is yellow to reddish brown. The main constituent of this essential oil is citral (makes up 70%-85% of its total volume). Some of its countries of origin are Brazil, India, and Sri Lanka.

Lemongrass essential oil is a very powerful bactericide and antiseptic. This makes it a very effective essential oil to use when cleaning and sanitizing. As with other lemon-scented oils, Lemongrass essential oil is very useful as an insect repellant (either alone or mixed with other “repellant” oils).

Lemongrass essential oil may help to boost the parasympathetic nervous system, and help to stimulate circulation. It is helpful for soothing headaches, although it must be blended with a carrier before being massaged onto the temples, as it can be irritating to the skin. This should also be kept in mind if lemongrass essential oil is being used in the bath, as too much can irritate the skin (maximum 3 drops per tubful of water).

Lemongrass is energizing and zesty, circulation-boosting, and muscle-easing.

Lemongrass is known as being a helpful addition to outdoor sprays. It is refreshing and deodorizing when diffused, as well as being uplifting to the spirit. It can also be added, well-diluted, to a carrier oil to boost circulation, bringing warmth to overused muscles and joints.

It blends well with bergamot, carrot seed, cedarwood virginian, citronella, fir needle, geranium egyptian, ginger, grapefruit pink, jasmine absolute, lavender, lemon, marjoram sweet, nutmeg, palmarosa, peppermint, pine scots, spruce hemlock, and thyme.

DIRECTIONS:
Lemongrass contains citral, a powerful skin sensitizer, so it is very important to use Lemongrass in proper dilution. In proper dilution, it is wonderful for the aches and pains associated with aging. Try 2 drops of Lemongrass in two teaspoons (10 ml) of carrier oil along with 2 drops of Lavender or Marjoram for a soothing muscle rub.

Aromatic - Diffuse using 2-3 drops per 100 ml of water or use in a personal inhaler.

Topical - Dilute to a maximum of 0.7% in a carrier.

Adults: add 2 drops to 4 tsp of carrier oil for massage.

Add 4-12 drops to a bowl of steaming water/facial steamer and inhale deeply for 5-10 minutes.

Start with lowest number of drops; increase as desired.
